    Never fill the tank above 80%

    This is the most common mistake. When loading spent solvent, the temptation is to fill as high as possible to process more in one cycle. Don't. The optimum fill level is 75–80% of tank capacity. Without adequate vapour space above the liquid, solvent cannot vaporise properly β€” cycles run longer and recovery rates drop.

    Pre-filter heavily contaminated solvent before loading

    Spent solvent containing paint sludge, resin particles or metal swarf should not go directly into the machine. Solids adhere to the heating element, create hot spots and foul the condenser. Passing heavily contaminated solvent through a coarse filter cloth before loading significantly reduces cycle time and cleaning frequency.

    Always let the cycle complete fully

    Stopping the cycle manually before it finishes means recoverable solvent remains in the tank and ends up in the residue waste bag β€” wasted. Always wait for the automatic cycle completion; this maximises recovery rate and minimises residue volume.

    The temperature gauge tells you about solvent purity

    If the distillation temperature is running noticeably higher than normal during a cycle, this is an early warning: either the solvent mixture has a high boiling point or the condenser is not cooling effectively. Monitoring outlet temperature regularly lets you catch both solvent quality issues and machine maintenance needs before they become serious.

    Keep the recovered solvent container closed

    Recovered solvent left in an open container evaporates and loses volume; dust or moisture falling in re-contaminates it. The collection container must always be sealed and labelled: "Recovered Solvent β€” Date: …" This is both a safety and quality standard.

    Keep at least 50 cm clear in front of the condenser fan

    The condenser unit on ARMIN machines relies on air circulation to cool and condense solvent vapour. Boxes, rags or equipment placed in front of the fan reduce cooling efficiency β€” vapours condense incompletely and recovery rate falls. Maintaining a minimum 50 cm clearance around the machine is standard practice.

    Change the residue bag (Teflon liner) at the right time

    The distillation residue (sludge) is collected in a Teflon liner or special bag for easy disposal. Changed too early wastes bags unnecessarily; changed too late risks the bag tearing and making clean-up very difficult. A good rule of thumb: inspect every 3–5 cycles, or when the residue visibly thickens.
