In Turkey, waste solvent is subject to strict rules under hazardous waste management regulations. Non-compliance can result in fines, facility closure and environmental litigation.
How Is Waste Solvent Classified?
Used solvents appear on the Hazardous Waste list. Waste codes vary by solvent type. Every business is obliged to identify the type and quantity of hazardous waste it generates.
Declaration Obligation
Businesses generating 1+ tonne of hazardous waste annually must declare via the Integrated Environmental Information System. Even below this threshold, waste type and disposal documentation must be maintained.
⚠️ Failure to declare or false declaration can result in substantial administrative fines.
Transport and Disposal
Waste solvent may only be transported and disposed of by Ministry-licensed transport and disposal firms. Unlicensed handling carries severe penalties.
Recovery Machine Reduces the Burden
Facilities using a recovery machine reduce waste solvent production by 80–90%. This significantly reduces both declaration obligations and disposal costs. Remaining sludge is still classified as hazardous waste but its volume is very small.
✅ Recovery machine users typically fall below declaration thresholds and compliance costs drop dramatically.
